Blanchet House

The Blanchet House, established in 1952, is located at 340 NW Glisan in the Old
Town/Chinatown area of Portland. Constructed shortly after 1905, the three story
nondescript red brick building has a basement that is used for storage, a main floor
consisting of the dining area, kitchen, managers office and bathrooms, and two upper floors
that serve as housing for the residents in the program.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served Monday through Saturday, with Sunday being a day
of rest for the residents. Those in the housing program are required to volunteer six days a
week helping with the preparation of meals and general cleanup and maintenance in and
around the property. Blanchet residents reside in a drug and alcohol free environment and
there is zero tolerance for anyone caught using on or off the premises.
One of our most significant sources for donated food is Urban Gleaners, a valued partner
located a block away from the Blanchet House. Several Urban Gleaners volunteers collect
food from stores and restaurants in the Portland area and drop them by Blanchet on a daily
basis. An excess of food is shared with other agencies in the area who also administer to the
needy
The following are just a few of the many businesses that donate to our cause: Oregon
Convention Center, Trader Joes, Zupans, New Seasons, Stroheckers, Pacific Coast Fruit,
Caruso Produce, Starbucks, Kennedy School, International Medical Teams, CBI, West
Coast Coffee, Ocean Beauty, Columbia Empire Meat, Zenner Meats, Sarah Lee, and Voodoo
Donuts.
